If you are unsure about your hormones and whether or not you may be entering the phase of menopause, visit your doctor or grab an at-home test like this one from Thorne. Hormonal changes during menopause can impact a woman’s health. This at-home saliva test measures levels of the key hormones related to menopause. Results include a personalized health plan.
This test is recommended to evaluate whether or not you may be going through menopause. Women in their late 30s or early 40s may be entering perimenopause, and the average woman enters natural menopause between 45 and 55 years old. Additional tests not included in this panel may be helpful to your doctor to evaluate whether you are going through menopause, including FSH (Follicle Stimulating Hormone) and TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone). This saliva test cannot measure TSH and FSH. Please see your doctor for additional recommendations to evaluate your health.
My Menopause Story
During the unsettling times of the COVID-19 pandemic, I explored a partial hysterectomy, which unexpectedly propelled me into the world of menopause. I soon found myself grappling with a host of peri-menopause symptoms, including mood swings, vaginal dryness, and joint and muscle aches. The weight gain was particularly disheartening, and I knew I needed to find a way to manage these changes without solely relying on hormone therapy.
Determined to alleviate my symptoms and help others in similar situations, I delved into researching natural supplements and herbal remedies. I learned that certain herbs could potentially ease my discomfort. I turned to homeopathy as well, intrigued by its holistic approach to treating the individual rather than just the symptoms.
I found that incorporating these natural solutions into my daily routine helped me feel more in control of my body. They didn’t erase all my symptoms overnight, but they made a significant difference in how I felt day-to-day. Sharing this knowledge became a passion, as I realized many women were searching for gentle, non-invasive options to manage their menopause symptoms. Through my story, I hope to empower others to explore and find relief in the world of natural health care solutions.
What are the Symptoms of Menopause
Menopause symptoms vary widely among individuals, but they commonly include mood swings, vaginal dryness, and trouble sleeping. As I explore further into understanding menopausal symptoms, it’s evident that each woman’s journey can be quite unique. Many experience hot flashes and night sweats, which are sudden feelings of warmth that can leave you drenched and uncomfortable. These symptoms can significantly disrupt one’s sleep, compounding the fatigue that often accompanies menopause.
The cessation of the menstrual cycle during menopause directly impacts hormone levels, particularly estrogen and progesterone, which can affect overall health including bone health. To counter these changes, I’ve found it helpful to contemplate incorporating herbal supplements and foods rich in plant estrogens into my diet. These can mimic some of the effects of hormones and might help stabilize the fluctuations that contribute to various symptoms.
Moreover, maintaining a healthy lifestyle through regular physical activity is essential. It not only helps in managing weight but also improves mood and energy levels, which can be adversely affected during menopause. Engaging in activities like stretching or brisk walking can also combat bone loss, improve muscle mass and improve cardiovascular health, making them excellent practices for anyone looking to alleviate menopausal symptoms.
What is the Number One Herb for Menopause
One herb that consistently rises to the top for alleviating menopause symptoms is black cohosh. It’s a natural supplement that has gained a lot of attention for its ability to mimic some effects of estrogen in the body, providing relief without the risks associated with hormone replacement therapy. I’ve discovered through my own journey and conversations with others that black cohosh can greatly ease issues like mood swings and trouble sleeping.
Exploring further, I found other herbal medicines like red clover, dong quai, and wild yam also show promise. Red clover contains isoflavones that are thought to help with menopause symptoms, while dong quai, often called the ‘female ginseng,’ is reputed for balancing estrogen levels. Wild yam, another natural supplement, has been used to aid various menopause-related discomforts.
Additionally, evening primrose oil, known for its gamma-linolenic acid content, supports hormonal health and can improve overall well-being during menopause. Integrating these supplements with lifestyle changes such as regular exercise and a balanced diet has made a noticeable difference in managing symptoms.
I also want to mention that I have not had the time to personally test each supplement I am going to discuss in this article because some of them have to be in your system for a while. However, I will be updating this article as I test each and give my personal opinions. I will also be updating with videos on my TikTok, if you want to follow my journey there.
I’m committed to sharing this knowledge to help others find relief during this challenging phase, emphasizing that natural supplements and thoughtful lifestyle adjustments can form a compassionate approach to menopause management.

Best Natural Supplements for Hot Flashes
Hot flashes often stand as the most bothersome symptom for many women experiencing menopause, but several natural supplements can offer relief. I’ve explored the world of herbal remedies and found a few that really make a difference for those struggling with the heat waves triggered by hormonal changes.
A friend recommended that I try Black Cohosh for hot flashes. She is into natural remedies as much as possible. She said” I was reluctant, but I gave it a try. I started taking two at night and they have really helped cut down on hot flashes. They have not eliminated them completely, but I am much more comfortable at night while sleeping. ” Dena. Owner, The Review Wire
Black cohosh tops the list, renowned for its effectiveness in cooling down hot flashes. It’s a herb that has been used traditionally to ease various menopause symptoms, including mood swings and joint pain. Another great option is evening primrose oil, which not only helps with hot flashes but also tackles vaginal dryness and weight gain.
I also recommend trying ginseng. While it’s often celebrated for its energy-boosting properties, many don’t realize it can also improve mood and help manage memory issues linked to menopause. For a more thorough approach, consider incorporating flaxseed into your diet. It’s packed with lignans that have estrogenic properties, offering a natural balance to hormonal fluctuations.
These supplements aren’t a cure-all, but they have greatly eased my journey through menopause. They might just be the relief you need from hot flashes and other menopause symptoms without resorting to hormone therapy. Always consult with a healthcare provider before starting any new supplement regimen.
Before adding dietary supplements you want to check with your doctor to make sure there is nothing that will have a bad interaction with blood thinners, high blood pressure medications or other prescription drugs. If you take other medications t0 treat your blood sugar, heart disease, breast cancer, blood clots or even alternative medicine for health conditions you need to check all of the supplements for safety and interaction.

Although the age a woman will experience menopause varies, it typically occurs during the late 40s or early 50s. The transition time leading to menopause is referred to as perimenopause, and it brings about several physiological changes. During this transition, her diet and exercise play an important role in minimizing the symptoms associated with the biological changes brought on by menopause. In addition to diet and exercise, supplements can provide important nutritional support.*
Meta-Balance is designed for women who are experiencing perimenopause or menopause and want a natural approach to managing symptoms.* Many women prefer a natural approach to mitigating the unpleasant aspects of menopause, such as hot flashes, mood swings, sleeplessness, night sweats, and memory lapses. Meta-Balance™ can help manage the symptoms associated with the normal ebbing of hormones that occurs during menopause.* Chaste tree has a stimulating effect on the ovaries.* Wild yam and black cohosh help moderate the natural decrease in female hormone production.* Pycnogenol is well recognized for its beneficial properties in providing support for a wide range of menopausal issues, from hot flashes to skin elasticity to loss of libido.*
ResveraCel® combines nicotinamide riboside (NR) with resveratrol and cofactors to support efficient energy production at the cellular level and healthy aging.* NR is the most efficient direct precursor to nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+), which enables the mitochondria (power houses in every cell) to generate the chemical energy needed to power the cell's biochemical reactions.*
Advanced Bone Support combines highly-researched nutrients that are essential for bone health.* The calcium and magnesium in the formula are optimally absorbed forms and also more concentrated, resulting in a higher elemental amount of these minerals per capsule.* Thorne's vitamin D (as vitamin D3) is free from the preservatives and lactose diluents used in many other vitamin D brands on the market. Vitamin D3, which facilitates the absorption of calcium; boron, which assists the body's metabolism of vitamin D and estrogen; and B vitamins for healthy methylation, which mediates homocysteine levels, a known risk factor of low bone density.
My personal Thoughts;
This Bundle works! It took about a month to get into my system. I noticed a difference in my mood, hot flashes and energy level. I also notice a difference if I forget to take them. I definitely recommend this one.
Best Natural Supplements for Night Sweats
Night sweats, another challenging symptom of menopausal transition, can be greatly alleviated with the right natural supplements. I’ve found that during this phase, particularly in peri-menopause, the disruption of night sweats can be more than just a minor annoyance. It often exacerbates other menopause symptoms, contributing to mood swings, trouble sleeping, and even joint and muscle aches due to disturbed rest.
In my quest to avoid hormone therapy and manage these symptoms naturally, I’ve uncovered several supplements that can help. Black cohosh, for instance, is renowned for its effectiveness in reducing night sweats and hot flashes. It’s a herb that’s been used traditionally to balance hormones and can be a cornerstone for managing menopause symptoms without the need for synthetic intervention.
Likewise, vitamin E has shown promise in alleviating night sweats. This antioxidant helps combat stress on our bodies, which can trigger or worsen menopause symptoms. I take a daily supplement and have noticed a significant reduction in the intensity of my night sweats.
Lastly, I’ve integrated flaxseed into my diet. Rich in phytoestrogens, flaxseed mimics some effects of estrogen, helping to stabilize the fluctuations that contribute to night sweats, vaginal dryness, and weight gain. Incorporating these natural supplements has greatly improved my quality of life during menopause.

Best Natural Supplements for Brain Fog
Brain fog during menopause can be frustrating, but I’ve discovered several natural supplements that help clear the haze. When my cognitive function began to falter, affecting my memory and focus, I turned to natural remedies keen on boosting mental clarity without the need for hormone therapy.
First, omega-3 fatty acids have been a game-changer for me. These essential fats are known to support brain health and improve cognitive function. I’ve incorporated more fish into my diet and started taking an omega-3 supplement, which has made a noticeable difference in how foggy I feel throughout the day.
Another key player has been the vitamin B complex. These vitamins are crucial for brain health and help maintain psychological function, which can enhance focus and help manage symptoms of brain fog. I take a daily B complex vitamin, and it’s helped me feel more mentally alert.
Lastly, Ginkgo biloba stands out among herbal supplements for its ability to support circulation to the brain and protect cognitive health. I started using Ginkgo biloba, and it’s been helpful not just for memory, but also in keeping my mind sharp.
ADD MEDIAVINE CARD
These supplements have been invaluable in helping me navigate through menopause with greater mental clarity and reduced brain fog.
Best Natural Supplements for Mood Swings
Turning to natural supplements has greatly leveled out my mood swings during menopause. After my partial hysterectomy and the onset of full-fledged menopause, I realized that hormone therapy wasn’t my preferred route. I began exploring home remedies and natural supplements to manage my symptoms, especially the unpredictable mood swings that came with peri-menopause.
I’ve discovered that certain supplements can be quite effective. For instance, St. John’s Wort has been a game-changer for stabilizing my mood. It’s known for its natural antidepressant properties, which seem to ease the psychological fluctuations associated with menopause. Additionally, omega-3 fatty acids, which I get from fish oil supplements, have helped not only with mood regulation but also with vaginal dryness and memory issues.
Magnesium has also been beneficial. It’s not only good for mood stabilization but helps with weight gain and sleep disturbances, which are common menopause symptoms. I’ve felt a significant improvement in my overall well-being since incorporating these supplements into my daily routine. If you suffer from poor sleep this is a great one to take before bed, or take a hot bath with Epsom salt as your skin can absorb magnesium.
These natural alternatives provide relief without the need for hormone therapy, aligning better with my desire to handle menopause symptoms in a more holistic manner. It’s comforting to know I can manage these changes naturally while supporting others in my community facing similar challenges.

With the powder drink mix from Ladywell, a few of us on the Consumer Queen team tried it. Princess Jessica said it tastes best when she mixes it into her morning coffee and adds a flavored creamer. The drink mix by itself was too strong for most of us, but we did not experience side effects like some of the other drinks we tried. You need to use them consistently for a while to see the best results so we have yet to see how much it helps. For me personally, I didn't like the flavor it had in my coffee.

Best Natural Supplements for Aches and Pains
While managing mood swings has been fundamental, I’ve also found natural supplements incredibly helpful for easing the joint and muscle aches common in menopause. Each woman’s journey through menopause is unique, and the discomfort from aches and pains can be quite debilitating. I’ve turned to several home remedies that have truly made a difference.
Turmeric, with its active compound curcumin, is a standout for its anti-inflammatory properties. I incorporate it into my diet and take it as a supplement to help reduce the severity of joint and muscle aches. Another fantastic remedy I’ve embraced is omega-3 fatty acids, found in fish oil supplements, which support overall joint health and reduce inflammation.
Ginger is another hero in my pantry for fighting aches. Its natural analgesic properties make it an excellent choice for peri-menopause symptoms. I often brew it into a warm tea, which not only helps with the pain but also aids in soothing other menopause symptoms like trouble sleeping and mood swings. You can even find tea bags with Turmeric and ginger that are caffeine free and can be enjoyed in the evening.
These natural supplements have been a cornerstone in managing my menopause symptoms without relying on hormone therapy. They’ve not only eased my physical discomfort but have also helped me feel more in control of my body during this changing phase.
Best All in One Natural Supplement for Menopause
I’ve discovered that a versatile natural supplement called Estroven is highly effective for managing multiple menopause symptoms. As someone who’s dealt with the choppy waters of the menopause journey myself, finding a holistic solution that addresses not just one, but several symptoms, has been a game-changer. Estroven isn’t just another supplement; it’s a companion through the often turbulent phase of peri-menopause and beyond.
This all-in-one formula tackles the gamut from mood swings and memory issues to joint pain and weight management. I found that it greatly eased my vaginal dryness and softened the frequent mood swings that can make day-to-day life feel like a rollercoaster. For those of us looking to avoid hormonal therapy, finding a natural supplement that can provide relief is essential. Estroven fits this need perfectly by harnessing the power of natural ingredients to offer a gentler approach.
What’s more, it’s heartening to share a solution that can alleviate not just my own struggles but also those of others. Recommending Estroven feels like extending a helping hand to fellow women navigating this challenging phase. It’s about more than just symptom management; it’s about restoring a sense of balance and well-being during the menopause journey.
Hormone Replacement Therapy: Side Effects & Is It OK
Although Estroven offers a natural alternative for managing menopause symptoms, it’s important to also discuss the more traditional route of hormone replacement therapy and its potential side effects. As someone who’s navigated the choppy waters of peri-menopause and now menopause, I’ve considered every option from natural supplements to hormone replacement therapy (HRT).
HRT can be a lifeline for many, alleviating severe symptoms like vaginal dryness, joint pain, and mood swings. However, it’s not without its drawbacks. The side effects can include weight gain, memory problems, and even an increased risk of certain health issues, which makes the decision to start HRT a deeply personal one.
I’ve watched friends struggle with the decision, weighing the relief from their menopause symptoms against the potential side effects. It’s a tough call, especially when you’re already dealing with the daily challenges that come with menopause. From my own journey and research, I’ve learned that it’s essential to have a candid conversation with your healthcare provider about HRT. Understanding both the benefits and the risks can help you make a decision that aligns with your health priorities and lifestyle. Remember, the choice is deeply personal and should be made based on thorough information and personal health context. Discuss all medical treatment options with a trusted provider and make sure they know of your own health and family history.
Have you tried switching to a plant-based diet or other natural menopause supplements I haven’t learned about yet? Leave a comment and let us know what has helped you on this journey to improved health and mood.
Whatever you choose, don’t feel guilty. And if you aren’t having any menopause symptoms at all, that’s normal too. Next we will be talking about Menopausal Dryness.
